“The Longhouse structures of Esopus Forest, and particularly “The Barn”, Tracy’s residence, are conceived less as conventional buildings than as SPACE—places where art, architecture, and the surrounding woodland could exist as one continuous environment.
Beneath its sweeping, wood-lined form, Tracy lives and works among photographs, paintings, furnishings, found objects, books, and the accumulated traces of his creative life, while the forest continually entered through expanses of glass and changing light.
It is here, removed from the machinery of the city yet connected to the artistic history of the Hudson Valley, that Tracy assembled the acclaimed CHARLES TRACY: CHIFFON with Patrick di Santo and myself.

“The Barn”, Foresta di Esopus
Le strutture della Longhouse nella Foresta di Esopus sono nate da un’idea dell’architettura nella quale il rifugio, lo studio, il paesaggio e il lavoro creativo appartengono tutti a un unico ambiente vivo.
Al loro centro c’era “The Barn”, la casa e il rifugio di lavoro di Charles Tracy. I suoi lunghi spazi interni, il legno chiaro, le grandi finestre aperte sul bosco e la presenza continua della foresta creavano una quiete molto diversa da quella dei suoi primi studi newyorkesi.
Ma The Barn non è soltanto una casa. È un luogo dove ci si ritrova, dove le cose si incontrano e si scambiano: fotografia, oggetti, pittura, architettura, memoria. Qui possono stare insieme, naturalmente, senza bisogno di confini formali.
È qui che Charles, lavorando con me e con Patrick di Santo, ha raccolto, riguardato e dato forma al lavoro che sarebbe diventato l’acclamato CHARLES TRACY: CHIFFON.
