Case Trick is an experimental electronic and media-instrumentalist duo formed by CR Reid and 9 Patrick di Santo, operating at the intersection of electronic composition, cinematic sound design, and visual media. Emerging as early forerunners of EDM—understood here as Electronic Digital Media—the duo integrates sound, image, and spatial perception into a unified perceptual language.
Rooted in industrial minimalism, lo-fi experimentation, and lateral composition, Case Trick draws lineage from musique concrète and post-war electronic pioneers. Their work extends these traditions into contemporary contexts, incorporating visual culture, street abstraction, portraiture, and landscape-driven media to construct immersive, non-linear environments.
The project formally coalesced at the convergence of art and research: di Santo’s neurological injury and subsequent diagnosis, alongside Reid’s graduate work in psychology focused on alternative neuro-rehabilitation frameworks. This intersection shaped Case Trick’s defining philosophy—treating sound not as genre, but as frequency, memory encoding, and embodied cognition.
